WebMar 13, 2024 · Gear Addict. 🎧 5 years. The Rode NTG-3 & 4 are low budget alternatives to the 416. And the Deity Smic2 is even a lower budget alternative to the Rodes. All are shotgun (hypercardioid) mics, these type of mics need a pretty dry room to make recordings. A dryer room will tame their off-axis response. WebS Mic 2 was my first mic, I still keep it around as a backup. I always preferred it to the 416 since it had a warmer sound. Deity makes decent stuff for sure, and the S-Mic 2 is a great starter mic (I personally still prefer the 416 just a little bit), but I still recommend people go for a 416 early in their career.
